slumbrew – Flagraiser IPA

Slumbrew, the research and development brand of the Somerville Brewing Company is still a relatively new entrant into the Massachusetts microbrew market. Slumbrew serves as an R&D lab and they produce all kinds of different beers. When one is chosen for mass production they contract out with other brewers as they can’t handle the volume necessary in their brewhouse. They announced the beginning of their operations back in the Fall of 2011 and I have been on the lookout for their beers in my local store ever since. Recently I caught a glimpse of one of their offerings, the Flagraiser IPA, during a long-awaited beer run.

Read on after the break for my impressions and whether I’ll be keeping slumbrew on my radar in the future…. Continue Reading

Winter Hibernation

Well we’ve clearly been in a bit of a winter hibernation, two posts in four months just isn’t going to cut it. However, it’s not without reason. The first few months of every year involve a whole lot of work and not very much play. We just finished up with all that real world stuff… Continue Reading

Harpoon Brewery – Vermont Spruce Tip

Alright, so it’s been a little over two months since our last post…things got a little distracting in real life and the site kind of it the back burner. Hopefully we’ll be able to step our game up a little bit in the future and we’ll avoid the two month breaks between posts. Maybe someday… Continue Reading

The Launch of Slumbrew

It is always great to welcome a new brewery to the fold and yesterday was a day to do just that. Slumbrew out of Somerville announced yesterday that they had officially begun brewing operations. Slumbrew will be producing both draft and 22 oz. options of multiple beers and the first beers were shipped on October… Continue Reading

The Great Pumpkin Drink-Off

The Great Pumpkin Drink-Off started as a simple idea, we’d buy a bunch of different pumpkin beers (we stretched the “New England” definition a bit just for this event), invite some friends over and figure out which one we liked the best. Then we decided we’d use a single-elimination tournament bracket to set it up… Continue Reading

We posted about McCormick and Schmick’s Beer War Series a couple weeks ago, and had the pleasure of attending the first dinner in the series on September 16 with a few of our friends. The first dinner pitted Clown Shoes of Massachusetts up against Otter Creek Brewing of Vermont and included a five course meal… Continue Reading

This Friday (September 16th) marks the start of the second season of the Faneuil Hall McCormick & Schmick’s Beer Wars Series dinners – pitting Clown Shoes vs. Otter Creek. Haverhill Brewery – Haverale

Haverhill Brewery was originally founded as the TAP brewpub in Haverhill, Massachusetts. Eventually the beers that they were producing in the pub became more and more popular resulting in an increase in production and a transition into the Haverhill Brewery. Currently they distribute to bars and liquor stores throughout Massachusetts and northern Rhode Island. Being… Continue Reading

White Birch Brewing Company – Indulgence Ale

White Birch Brewing Company is one of the smallest and newest breweries within New England, they opened for business in June 2009 brewing in 15 or 20 gallon batches. As more and more people find out about them and seek out the beers they produce, brewing has increased slowly from those small initial batches to… Continue Reading

Berkshire Brewing Company – Dean’s Beans Coffeehouse Porter

Berkshire Brewing Company – Dean’s Beans Coffeehouse Porter

This beer may sound a bit familiar, as I have previously mentioned the Nitro Coffeehouse Porter that I had while at the Brew Woo Beer Festival.  I LOVED the nitro version when I sampled it a few months ago, and have been hiding the Coffeehouse Porter in my fridge for a few months.  The only… Continue Reading
